Agile software development emphasizes collaboration, flexibility, and continuous delivery of value to the customer. One of the key components of Agile development is the user story, which is a simple, concise description of a feature or requirement. Writing effective user stories is critical to the success of an Agile project, and the INVEST method is a useful tool to help Business Analysts ensure that user stories are well-formed and aligned with the needs of the customer.

The INVEST method was first introduced by Bill Wake, an Agile consultant and coach, in early 2003, via an article in his blog (xp123.com). Bill Wake created the INVEST method as a way to help Agile teams write better user stories and ensure that they are aligned with the needs of the stakeholders. In 2004, Mike Cohn (founder of the Scrum Alliance) recommended it in his book “User Stories applied”. Since then, the method has since become widely adopted by Agile teams and is considered a best practice for writing user stories in Agile development.
